YOUR SCAPES-REGINA Relight festival

YOUR SCAPES-REGINA Relight festival

Part I of “YOUR SCAPES-REGINA“ video projection, handmade mirror glass and eco-poetry. The installation emphasizes the deep rootedness of human existence in water. Lets us dive in. Artists of all genres who address climate change in their work know that it is a challenge to strike a balance between the message they want to convey and artistic expression. Eco-poetry, a relatively new sub-genre of poetry, succeeds in conveying a sense of environmental justice, responsibility, ethics and the urgency of climate change. For "YOUR SCAPES", Hafenbrädl was able to collaborate with artists who have succeeded in doing just that. Craig Santos Perez, Steinunn Sigurðardóttir, Roel Funcken, sea rescuer of the MS Iuventa and Anna McCarthy. "YOUR SCAPES" is a subtle interdisciplinary work consisting of video projection and a hand-blown mirror glass cylinder. The viewer finds themselves in an immersive setting in which they have extended access to their subconscious, where complexity reigns. The fragility of the ecosystem is made physically tangible. The mirror becomes a symbol of the vulnerability of nature and human action. He adds an extra dimension to the work by pointing to the invisible, deeper layers of nature and human consciousness. Ecosystems are complex, interconnected networks of life forms that exist in a fragile balance. Similar to a mirror that can shatter with a single crack, even small disturbances in an ecosystem can have serious consequences. Against this backdrop, the installation philosophizes about water, waterways and climate change. We hear texts by Dr. Craig Santos Perez, activist and writer from Guam / Pacific and texts about the melting of glaciers by Icelandic author Steinunn Sigurdardóttir. Parts of the audio diary of a sea rescuer and crew member of the MS Iuventa take us to the Mediterranean. Despite the gravity of these themes, the work leaves room for lingering on the shores of the waters, in the life-giving cycle. The installation explores the border area between auditory and visual experience. YOUR SCAPES" aims to explore interdisciplinarity through statements by Adrian Bernard Klein and Claude Bragdon: Claude Bragdon was guided by the idea that "an art of light advances human development and expands consciousness, and that therein lies its greatest use and noblest task". In his book Colour Music, Adrian Bernard Klein compares the color light musician to a modern artist and at the same time to a composer. "who withdraws from the world of everyday thinking and feeling and penetrates into deeper spheres through a sometimes seemingly absurd reflection on the foundations of aesthetics."

YOUR SCAPES - Malta

The installation "YOUR SCAPES" explores the borderland between auditory and visual experience. The aim is to create a visual score that makes a clear dual nature perceptible. The viewer finds himself in an immersive setting where he has an expanded access to his subconscious, where complexity reigns. "YOUR SCAPES" is a site-specific work, it visualize the genius loci of Malta. The migration policies crisis will be at the core of the maltabiennale. Thus I asked my friend Kathrin if she could share her perspective as a sea rescuer. Kathrin was a crew member aboard the MV Iuventa. The rescue ship has been seized in Italy since 2017, while she along with others, is still facing a criminal trial and prison sentences of up to 20 years. Kathrin is an activist and despite ongoing intimidating she continues fighting against the, criminalisation of transnational mobility and for freedom of movement. From years ago Kathrin has kept an audio diary. Her voice will be arranged as a sound collage by Anna McCarthy. "YOUR SCAPES" comprises a mouth-blown mirror glass cylinder crafted in a historical process. A waveform of the audio composition is projected onto the cylinder from two sides and distorted in an analog-aesthetic way. The entire space is thereby taken up by the reflection of the projection. The installation creates an immersive experience. The handmade character of the mirror brings about motion in the glass. These irregularities distort the projection in a stimulating way, visually creating a waterscape. The very slow rotation of the cylinder and the movement of the waveform invite the viewer on a journey through audiovisual landscapes. "YOUR SCAPES" is designed to generate a subtle narrative in the viewer themselves and in their individual contemplation. Claude Bragdon was guided by the idea that "an art of light advances human development and expands consciousness, and that therein lies its greatest benefit and its noblest task".
WILD THINGS - Der Schlüssel

WILD THINGS - Der Schlüssel

Even though she only spent one night at Blutenburg Palace in February 1848, Lola Montez, mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, is probably the most famous woman to have stayed within the historic walls in Obermenzing. Video artist Vanessa Hafenbrädl has read a lot about Montez. However, the main inspiration for her light and sound installation "Wild Things - Der Schlüssel", which she created together with Anna McCarthy, was another woman: Jella Lepman. Having fled the Nazis as a Jew, the journalist returned to Germany after the Second World War at the request of the US occupying forces. In 1949, she founded the International Youth Library (IJB) in Munich, which has been housed in Blutenburg Palace since 1983. With the help of international children's books, a bridge was to be built between the nations in the post-war generation. For Hafenbrädl, who questions female archetypes in her work, Jella Lepman is a "prime example of the effectiveness of female work, tenacity and female vision". The installation, which will be on display in the castle courtyard on the first weekend in March, also makes reference to Erich Kästner and Alice in Wonderland. "But the essence is the viewer's own images and thoughts. In the subconscious, where the complexity prevails," says Hafenbrädl. Incidentally, the unusual title "Wild Things - The Key" is derived from a book that Hafenbrädl and McCarthy independently pulled from the shelf during their first appointment at the IJB: "Wild Things: Children's Culture and Ecocriticism" analyzes literary nature education for children. Nature has a special meaning for the artists, says Hafenbrädl: "McCarthy and I both use nature intensively as a source and regeneration for and from our artistic work." And the key in the title? Keyhole-like shapes in the walls of the castle provided the inspiration.

ANGEL IN THE HOUSE - Christal Baschet concert and installation

"Angel in the House" Mystical multimedia art experience at Ludwigsthal Castle/Bavarian Forest. Light artist Vanessa Hafenbrädl created a synesthetic world of image, sound, tone and space in Ludwigsthal Castle and the Sacred Heart Church, opening up completely new spheres for visitors to immerse themselves in. Vanessa Hafenbrädl's ancestors the Hafenbrädl family of glassmakers once had a glassworks here in Ludwigsthal. Hafenbrädl produced mirrors of extraordinary height and width in the 19th century. In the castle Ludwigsthal the former family seat Hafenbrädl shows several video installations which make the spirit of the place perceptible. A mirror glass installation with the theme of Snow White in the hall of mirrors. Snow White's parents were once also glassmakers in Lohr /Main. The glass object "Angel in the house" which visualizes the dramatic story of the women of the glassworks was exhibited in the furnace room. Hafenbrädl changed the architectural feeling in the room and projected historical portraits onto meter-long mirror foils in the church of the village. … A musical event that is unparalleled and could not have been more could have been: Marc Chouarain, film composer and musician, has traveled from Paris for this event. In the Sacred Heart Church the audience experienced experienced a live performance of light installations and space-filling, sonic spheres spheres of the "Cristal Baschet", the rare instrument made of glass and metal with 48 glass rods. Inebirated and enthusiastic the visitors were allowed to the "Cristal Baschet" after the concert. The glass rods are with wet fingers and transfer their vibration to the metal. written by @lisa.spaethe Videoedit by @darkvisionsnet live performance: Marc Chouarain Concept and realization: Vanessa Hafenbrädl founded by bbk-bayern Ludwigsthal.

SCHOLLE SALON Videoinstallation

Videomapping into mouth-blown antique mirrors by Vanessa Hafenbrädl Sound collage by Anna McCarthy Many artists have lived and worked in the artist colony Holzhausen since 1890. This was the beginning of an era of art on the western shore of the Ammersee. Hafenbrädl's installation deals with the past romanticism of the place and makes it tangible through a light walk accompanied by a sound collage by Anna McCarthy designed for this purpose. The view into the past is to be experienced synesthetically through various stations in the house and park. The work illuminates the aspect of the past that municipalities and real estate exposés refer to today, but today's reality is that the overwhelming power of the land price keeps artists away and it is difficult to use the aura of the area artistically. Hafenbrädl's work is a tribute to the spirit of the artist with the aim of shaking things up. A call to the artist and poet spirits to reoccupy the places. With ♥️zum detail deep research and the support of the Bavarian Castles and Lakes Administration I visualized this installation. Part 1 Videomapping into antique mouth-blown mirrors in the art nouveau hall of the Gasteiger Haus.
